Artists Profile
Born by the sea in Canada, Jean Ehlis has returned to her roots – her tropical roots. Living now in Florida
for more than 17 years, with the Gulf of Mexico in her veins, her artwork has headed south. Jean uses
transparent watercolors to express her feelings found in the blue green of crashing waves and the aqua
color of a forest creek that flows from an underground spring.
Trying to create some "Old Florida" on paper, her travels have taken her to some places few people have
ventured. She says that she was inspired by the great masters, but by looking at her art, you know that
she was inspired by the beautiful state of Florida. "I never feel more alive than when I am painting. It
is my passion," she says.
Jean is a member of the Cider Painters of America, the Art League of Manatee County, Island Gallery West
in Anna Maria, where her work is currently being displayed, a member of the Art League of Anna Maria Island and
is a Signature Member of the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society.
