Artists Profile
Pam McElhiney McMillen wove her first basket in 1988 while living in Ft Leavenworth, KS. During her 30 years as a military wife she taught and displayed her love of basketry in Ft. Belvoir, VA; Clarksville, TN; Frankfurt, Germany; Kwajalein Atoll (Republic of the Marshall Islands); Brandon, FL; Port Charlotte, FL; Punta Gorda, FL; and now here in Bradenton. She is a member of the North Carolina Basket Makers Association, the Georgia Basketry Association, and the Anna Maria Island Art League where she serves as Vice President.
In 2004 she won second place in the fiber medium in the Anna Maria Island Art League’s Annual Springfest and in 2007, won first place at the Manatee County Fair for a waxed linen miniature basket.
Pam started experimenting with gourds in 2004 after taking a class at a convention. Her work involves incorporating a variety of materials to create a one-of–kind piece.
Pam still loves to share her art and teaches basket weaving in her home studio and offers workshops through the Anna Maria Island Art League and at the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda.
Pam grew up here in Bradenton and since returning, resides on Anna Maria Island.
